Hand crafted Nerikomi Mugs and Tableware

Nerikomi is a Japanese technique where different colour clays are stacked and sliced to form an array of patterns and designs. After clay has been stained with different colours, individual blocks are formed, sliced and laid out into a large slab. This is what each piece has been cut from. Glitchy checkers turn in to a marbled mess of the space time continuum. Each piece is handmade individually with skill and care from high quality Australian clay.

Zyanya Earthwalker is a queer ceramic artist based in the Northern Rivers, NSW. She works with earthy and colour stained clay to create colourful, playful nerikomi and sculptural wares. Zyanya places great emphasis on designing high quality, functional, ergonomic and aesthetically pleasing pieces that feel good in your hands and are beautiful to see in your home. Drawing inspiration from theories of cosmic human origins, Zyanya explores the self as a being suspended between realms, expressing this through glitchy, abstract patterns which morph into a marbled mess of the space time continuum. Her work serves as a tactile reminder of our deep connection to self, nature and the universe; exploring the spaces between balance and chaos, past and future.
